The 100% Great Lakes Fish Initiative

Wisconsin business have committed to using all parts of the fish they harvest or produce by signing the 100% Great Lakes Fish pledge. Eat Wisconsin Fish is also supporting this sustainable commercial fisheries and aquaculture effort. We’re doing this in a variety of ways, including helping to develop and distribute a brochure, organizing a head-to-tail showcase, and featuring the project on The Fish Dish podcast.

The 100% Great Lakes Fish Initiative is a project of the Conference of the Great Lakes Governors and Premiers.  The project seeks to demonstrate how 100% of commercially produced fish from the Great Lakes region can be used for different purposes, many beyond food.  The project is modeled after a successful Icelandic effort that is maximizing the full use of the commercial cod harvest. Using more parts of harvested fish is promising to drive greater economic returns, create jobs, help rural economies and support sustainable practices.
